José Álvaro Correia (Lisboa, Portugal, 1976)

Designer de luz, licenciado em produção de teatro e especialista em design de iluminação pela Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo. O teatro foi o início de um percurso que tem levado José Álvaro Correia a desenhar luz para várias áreas da iluminação como concertos, óperas, dança, museus e exposições, vídeo, instalações, espaços públicos e eventos. Desde 2000 que orienta diversos workshops de iluminação, colaborando regularmente com a escola profissional Balleteatro, Escola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha onde é professor adjunto convidado e a E.S.M.A.E. Nos últimos anos tem conciliado o desenho de luz com o desenho de vídeo interessando-se pela implementação de sistemas de integração e sincronismo da iluminação com a imagem e som.

É Co-Autor do Manual Técnico para Iluminação de Espectáculos.

Born in Lisbon in 1976.

Began his work in theater in 1993 in a school project. Completed his Bachelor of light and sound in ESMAE in 1999 and a degree in Design of light in 2007. In 1998 received a scholarship of merit from the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. He trained for three months at the National Theatre in Bergen (Norway) and during nine months of 2001 at the Center for Creation for Theatre in Porto Capital of Culture. Since then he has been active as a Light designer. Is the autor of many ​​light designs for theatre, dance,  Exhibitions and museums (10 years Refer, Lisbon Story Center), Concert (Jazz in August of F.C. Gulbenkian, Real Combo Lisbonense), Events ( Lisbon Fashion Week), Building and urban light design (Projecto para jardim de santos), operas (La Douce by Emmanuel Nunes at Casa da Música in Porto) and short films (black and white Directed by Saguenail and Regina Guimarães). Since 2000, is been a theacher and trainer in workshops and lectrures in lighting design for theatre and is a full time theacher in the theatre course of Leiria Politécnico. He is the co-author of the "Technical Book for Light Shows".
